Shanghai River permanently closed Jan. 31 after 55 years in the River Oaks area, according to a Facebook post by the restaurant.

Shanghai River was a Shanghainese restaurant first established in 1970. The restaurant was located in Town West Center at 2407 Westheimer Road.

The restaurant specialized in traditional Hunan and Sichuan dishes, and served classic itemsc such as Hunan sliced lamb, spicy crispy whole fish, Peking duck and walnut shrimp.

The owners did not give any reasons on social media as to why the restaurant closed and did not respond to a request for comment by Community Impact.
