Afuri Ramen and Dumplings officially opened the doors to Houston residents Nov. 1. The Tokyo-based restaurant serves authentic and modern Japanese cuisine.

On the menu

The menu is centered around the signature Yuzo Shio ramen; a light, delicate broth built upon a reduction made from local chicken, dry fish, seaweed and vegetables.

Guests can choose from a variety of ramen bowls such as the classic Yuzo Shio, the spicy Yuzo Ratan or the Tonkotsu Tantan, a spicy miso tare with tankotsu broth, pork crumbles, bok choy, shiitake mushrooms and chili oil. Another popular entree is the Tsukemen, a ramen dish in Japanese culture consisting of noodles that are eaten after begin dipped in a separate bowl of soup or broth.

The menu also features starters such as crispy bok choy, edamame and ramen eggs, as well as fried pork dumplings, tuna tartare and Japanese fried chicken. Sushi and handrolls are also available.

More details

The Houston location is the first restaurant to open in Texas. Located on North Durham Drive, the Heights spot features a full bar and a large open-concept kitchen where guests can watch the noodle and broth-making processes from the comfort of their table.

“We know what an authentic dish tastes like and we also know that Afuri is one of the first to bring these flavors into the city,” Houston Franchise Owner Patrick Sun said. “Houston has such a diverse group of communities here and we wanted to ensure all can be included in this experience. That's why our Houston menu features a variety of meat and broth selections and a gluten-free noodle.”

Afuri Ramen will be open for lunch and dinner services from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
