Big Chicken is a fast-casual restaurant chain in the United States founded by retired Hall of Fame basketball star Shaquille O'Neal.

What they offer

The restaurant sells a variety of chicken-inspired meals, including sandwiches, tenders, dunks and wings along with sides items, such as crinkle cut fries, macaroni and cheese, and jalapeno slaw.

Shakes and sundaes are available on the menu with flavors that range from peanut butter chip and salted caramel to classics such as vanilla, strawberry and chocolate.

Staying local

While the chain is owned and operated by Shaq and his culinary partners, Authentic Brands Group and JRS Hospitality, Big Chicken locations are franchised and are opened by local business owners.

The Yale Street location is owned by Ryan Davis, a local Houstonian. He opened the third location in Houston in mid-August and said he is excited about the store creating its own individual identity.

"Big Chicken is like chicken on steroids," he said. "There is no place like it. You come in, and you only have an eight-minute ticket time. The chicken is hot and flavorful, but we also have a patio and a full bar with TVs where people can just come in and hang out."
