Work to restore a former art deco laundry building to its original condition is underway at Montrose Boulevard and West Gray Street, with the shell to be completed by this summer and the first floor fully leased, according to a release.

“We are restoring the exterior of this building to its original Art Deco design,” Pejman “PJ” Jamea, principal of Oxberry Group said in the statement. Oxberry Group obtained the site at 1110 West Gray in 2017.

According to a brochure from Edge Realty, the 10,777 square feet on the first floor have been leased to a medical office. The site has a second story offering 6,600 square feet.

Most residents of the area knew the site as Gibbs Boats, but prior to 1958 it was a Quality Laundry, built in 1932. During that time, the building’s art deco features were removed or obscured.

Tipps Architecture and Arch-Con Corp. have partnered with Oxberry Group on the project, called Rêve at Montrose.
