Once the epicenter of the coronavirus crisis in the U.S., the state of New York is lending aid to Houston as the city faces new challenges with high case counts and hospitalization numbers.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo authorized the deployment July 16 of 19 clinical staffers and five support staffers for two new coronavirus testing sites in Houston.

“We are grateful for what people across the US did for NY. We are grateful [and] we are paying it forward,” Cuomo wrote on Twitter.

The two sites both operate from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.: one at Fallbrook Church at 12,512 Walters Road, Houston, and one at Higher Dimension Church at 9800 Club Creek Drive, Houston. Both sites will remain open for two weeks.

“Houston is grateful for the support from Governor Cuomo and the people of New York,” Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a news release. “Testing is critically important in Houston, especially in the Black and Hispanic communities that have been hit hardest by COVID-19."
