Commutes into the Inner Loop from southwest Houston are about to get a little rougher for the next year or so.

Hwy. 59 northbound will lose one lane from Chimney Rock Road to Weslayan Street beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, June 10 until early 2020 as construction continues on the Loop 610-Hwy. 59 interchange. But before that closure, two full lanes will close from 9 p.m. June 7 until 5 a.m. June 10 so crews can restripe the roadway.

"Know before you go—check for alternate routes and be prepared for delays," said Danny Perez, a public information officer with the Texas Department of Transportation.

The interchange, considered the No. 2 most-congested section of highway in the state, is undergoing a $259 million redesign that began in September 2017 and is projected to take over six years to complete, though incentives are in place to encourage faster completion, according to TxDOT.

In May, the I-610 West Loop between Westpark Drive and Bissonnet Street lost a lane in each direction until further notice.
