Winemakers Mark Ellenberger and Emily Trout opened the wine bar and retail concept Jan. 18, 2020 on Usener Street, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

The couple debuted their Kagan Cellars' 2019 Vintage wines at a special event in January, according to a release on the anniversary—which has received acclaim both locally and nationally.

What to expect

Mutiny Wine Room was built to bring together wine-lovers and foodies searching for diversity in Houston, according to the release. It carries a bottle list of 40-45 options, focusing on small wineries that produce between 500-5,000 cases, per prior Community Impact reporting.


The business offers wine-tasting and global culinary experiences from Chef Eduardo Alcayaga, who mixes California sensibilities with a Texas twist, per the release.

On the menu

The food menu at Mutiny Wine Room includes hush puppies and caviar and gulf snapper ceviche starters; as well as focaccia pizzas; charcuterie and cheese boards; and seasonal offerings such as smoked duck breast and pan-roasted fish, according to its website.
