One of the many operations overseen by the nonprofit Blackwood Educational Land Institute, the Skyfarm, or the farm laboratory, as officials call it, experiments with different regenerative agricultural techniques such as permaculture in a distinctive urban rooftop soil setting.
The nonprofit also hosts educational experiences for guests, volunteers and anyone who is interested in becoming what officials call "eco-literate." According to the nonprofit's website, being eco-literate entails how to improve individual and community health outcomes and contribute to a more resilient environment and local economy by consuming more local, regeneratively grown foods at home.
To celebrate the farm, located at POST Houston, and its second anniversary, officials are inviting the public to its monthly afternoon farmers market with live music, face painting, giveaways and farm tours, according to an announcement.
