The flagship Houston location of the Nashville-based fitness chain Manduu can be found at 3733 Westheimer Road, Houston.
New owners Elizabeth Petersen, an entrepreneur and swimsuit designer, and George Lancaster, global head of marketing and communications with the real estate firm Hines, have hired a team of professional trainers as they begin the scouting process for potential new stores. The duo are looking at Tanglewood, Katy, Sugar Land, Clear Lake and The Woodlands, according to a June 14 news release. They also refreshed the River Oaks location after taking ownership.
The concept involves harnessing involuntary contractions elicited by electrical current applied to the muscle, which provides for health and wellness benefits. The process, cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, is carried out in 15-minute sessions with the use of the European-made technology called E-Fit EF-1280US.
Each session includes a full-body scan using InBody technology to measure skeletal muscle mass, total body fat, visceral fat and metabolic rate, among other metrics. Sessions are low impact and gentle on joints, muscles and tendons, and can be customized for each client based on fitness levels and goals, according to the release.
“Something else that our clients love about Manduu is the intimate nature of their time here,” Petersen said. “There are only two participants at a time, and you really have the attention of the trainer—benefits for newbies who may at first feel intimidated or self-conscious.”
