The details
According to a Nov. 25 news release, the theatre will celebrate by hosting a special screening of "Cinema Paradiso," and will feature a live cinematic chamber music performance by Reel Harmony Duo, Micah Sanders and Ben Sieben.
The Reel Harmony Duo concert will start at 6:30 p.m., with the screening following at 7:15 p.m.
"With the support of the community, this treasured Houston landmark will continue to be a beacon for cinephiles for generations to come," a representative of Arthouse Houston, a local nonprofit dedicated in preserving the city's film community, said in a news release.
Zooming out
The celebration of the theatre's birthday comes after the River Oaks Theatre reopened in October. The theatre originally closed in 2021 due to lease complications. However, Culinary Khancepts, an affiliate of Star Cinema Grill and developer of Reel Luxury Cinema in The Woodlands, acquired the property in 2022, and helped restore and reopen the theatre.
One more thing
Arthouse Houston also announced the making of a feature-length documentary called "Cinema Revival" that follows the community's efforts to save the River Oaks Theatre.
Arthouse Houston is looking to raise $55,000 to cover post-production costs through community donations. To donate, visit the Arthouse website.
