Gallery Furniture owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale responded to Hurricane Ida by accepting evacuees at his store locations. Known for his contributions during times of need, McIngvale teamed up with several area organizations to send a crew of volunteers and supplies to Southeast Louisiana. Kroger
Houston-area locations of national grocery chain Kroger are providing food donations for families in need in the New Orleans area. At the checkout counters, shoppers can donate $6 to provide nonperishable and ready-to-eat meals and snacks. Find a Kroger location at www.kroger.com.
Houston Food Bank
The Houston Food Bank is leading a relief effort in Southeast Louisiana, bringing food, water and supplies to those in need. Rather than accepting food or water donations, the food bank suggests donating money to the cause or hosting a fundraiser via social media. West Houston Ministries
West Houston Ministries is hosting Hurricane Ida evacuees and also helping those looking to relocate to Houston either temporarily or permanently. The organization is requesting donations of nonperishable food, toiletries, adult and child diapers, water, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, gas station gift cards and other household items.
Drop off donations on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays from 1-4 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 10501 Meadowglen, Houston. Monetary donations can be made at www.whamministries.org/donate.
Tomball Farmers Market
Visitors of the Tomball Farmers Market can drop off supply donations on Sept. 4 and Sept. 11. Volunteers with Tomball Dodge, Tomball Ford and Houston Jeep Freaks will deliver supplies to Southeast Louisiana. Accepted items include baby formula, nonperishable food, face masks, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, medical supplies, batteries, new and gently-used clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, cleaning supplies, mosquito repellent, and bottled water.

Jackie’s Brickhouse
Kemah restaurant Jackie's Brickhouse is serving as a drop-off point through Sept. 6 for donations from residents in the Bay Area. Accepted items include tarps, blankets, batteries, flash lights, cases of water, toilet paper, diapers, feminine products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pet food, soap, deodorant, dry or wet shampoo, conditioner, baby wipes, hair brushes, socks, coloring books, crayons, markers and easy activities for kids. Bakkhus Taverna, another Kemah restaurant, is collaborating with Jackie’s Brickhouse and accepting donations for the same drive.
