Academic camps are led by certified teachers and cover math, sciences, computer software and SAT preparation. Other camps include basketball, ice skating, chess and robotics.

Engineering Camp Ages: 6-17 Dates: June 6-July 15 Cost: $179-$315 Students learn the basics of engineering and can choose from six different classes.

CompuCamp Ages: 10-17 Dates: June 6-16; June 20-30; and July 5-14 Cost: $315-$529 (per week) Attendees learn advanced skills about computers, delving into construction, operating systems and programming.

Science Camp Ages: 6-14 Dates: June 6-July 15 Cost:  $179-$269 (per week) Students learn a variety of science skills including chemistry, electronics and robotics. Various classes focus on constructing robots, droids and drones.

Writing Camp Ages: 7-18 Dates: June 6-July 15 Cost: $269-$315 per week (varies by program) Writing camp is designed to help students improve their writing skills, including sentence structure, organization, word choice and finding a voice.

Language Camp Ages: 6-15 Dates: June 6-10, June 13-17, June 27-July 1, July 11-15 Cost: $269 per week Students learn the basics of Spanish and French, including vocabulary, pronunciation, verb conjugation and basic skills.

Summer Academy Ages: 10-18 Dates: June 6-July 15 Cost: Varies by program ranging from $269 to $695 per session Elementary school and junior high school students choose math or communication classes to have fun and to improve their skills.

Animals

Circle Lake Ranch Horse Camp 1102 Circle Lake Drive, Katy 281-395-4311 www.circlelakeranch.com Ages: 6-12 Dates: weekly from June 6-Aug. 19 Cost: $399 per week Kids receive daily instruction in an introduction to horse riding and ownership. Circle Lake Ranch owns 23 lesson horses selected for their gentle demeanor, and student interns are available to walk alongside beginner horse riders until they feel comfortable enough to ride on their own. Along with learning the basics of horse riding, students rotate through different learning centers that include lessons on horse feeding, putting equipment on horses, washing and grooming and identifying the parts of a horse. Children produce horse-related artwork and participate in a horse show on the last day of camp.

The camps involve a variety of activities, including performances, comic creations, fairy tales, bubble painting and scrap booking.

Beginners spend a week picking up any instrument that strikes a chord for them and learn how to play, while more experienced child musicians spend an entire week learning to perform.

AKA Sports Camp American Kids Athletics 3211 N. Fry Road, Katy 281-492-2411 www.akasportscamp.com Ages: 5-12 Dates: June 6-Aug. 19 Cost: $175 per week (full time), $125 per week (part time) At its 10,000-square-foot facility with more than 2 acres of outdoor play area, AKA Sports Camp provides an atmosphere where children can participate in arts and crafts, Bible studies, and a variety of sports, including baseball, football, bowling and volleyball. Children also go on four field trips per week.

The camp offers individualized scheduling with more than 40 activities including, wake boarding, horseback riding, and golf. The camp focuses on building character and values while also having fun.

Summer day camps are available at the new 25-acre water park adjacent to Katy Mills. Children can hang out at the Double T Hideout for a weeklong day camp program for kids who love water. The camp starts each week off with a swim lesson followed by games and activities.

Math & Science

American Robotics Academy Crosspoint Community Church of Katy 700 S. Westgreen Blvd., Katy 281-599-7626 www.roboticsacademy.com Ages: 6 and up Dates: Weeklong camps—either half- or full-day; June 6-Aug. 12 (no camps held July 5-8) Cost: $175 per week (half day); $310 per week (full day) At robotics camp, the staff focuses on team building, problem solving, creativity and fun. Campers attend a full- or half-day camp and will work with Lego bricks, axles, gears, beams, wheels, motors and microcomputers.

Summer Discovery Camps The Health Museum 1515 Hermann Drive, Houston 713-521-1515 thehealthmuseum.org/camps Ages: 5-13 Dates: June 6-Aug. 19 Cost: $269 to $350 At the Houston Museum District’s Health Museum, children can attend weekly camps that let them study forensic science, organ dissection, healthy eating habits, 3-D printing and robotics among others. Games and activities are also a part of The Health Museum’s Summer Discovery Camp  experience.

Sea Camp Texas A&M University, Galveston campus 1001 Texas Clipper Road, Galveston 409-740-4525 www.tamug.edu/seacamp Ages: 6-11 (day camps), 10-18 (overnight weekly camps) Dates: June 5-Aug. 6 Cost: $140-$160 (day camps), $875–$950 (weeklong camps) Attendees at Sea Camp explore shipwrecks and marine ecosystems, do coastal photography, go to beach parties, take part in a research vessel trip, shark dissection and beach camping. Career-oriented camps also cover veterinary medicine, marine biology and aquatic sciences. All classes are led by Texas A&M University marine biology students.

Camp Cove Treasure Cove Preschool 22765 Westheimer Parkway 281-395-3950, ext. 345 www.treasurecove.org Ages: 2-9 Dates: June 6-23 Cost: $75 per week (half day); $140 per week (full day) Hosted by The Fellowship and Treasure Cove Preschool, the weeklong camps offer a variety of activities determined by each child’s age. Activities include arts and crafts, movement, science, Lego brick building and various sports. Children enroll in either half- or full-day camps that last one week.

Attendees at camp begin each day with high-energy, interactive performances. There are also worship sessions, games and live character skits. Participants engage in various sports activities, including, zip lining, water sliding and swimming. Swimming lessons are also offered for an extra $50 fee.

Campers participate in kayaking, archery, canoeing and swimming. Attendees worship and learn about the Christian faith.
