In the span of 10 years, Active Life Dentistry, the practice founded by Blume in 2006, has grown to include five locations around Cypress. Blume started his dentistry career after graduating from Baylor University in 1993 and then attending dental school at The University of Texas Health Science Center. The Cypress native graduated magna cum laude in 1998 and then moved back home.
“Coming back to Cypress, my parents were here, I had some friends coming back to Houston, and I just didn’t feel like relocating anywhere else,” Blume said.
Blume’s uncle, Jeff Blume, was a dentist himself and constant mentor to Blume both before and after he returned to Cypress. Blume said his uncle played a large role in making his transition from college to the professional world successful.
“I’m blessed that I had a great mentor that was willing to take me in and show me the ropes on the business side of it,” Blume said.
Nowadays, Blume stays involved in the community through his church, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, where he serves on the church’s mission committee with his wife, Carrie. Blume and his wife are raising their two kids, Cameron and Claudia, in the neighborhood right next to where Blume grew up in Cy-Fair.
“It’s kind of neat to be able to take them around the areas that I grew up and [to show them] some of the things like, ‘This used to be dad’s stomping ground here,’” Blume said.
Although his five offices in Cy-Fair may represent his success in the business world, for Blume, it is still all about the smiles.
“One of the biggest things that makes me feel good in my heart is when I’m sitting back in my chair and I can hear the constant laughter of the main office,” Blume said. “You’ll be sitting there and not 10 seconds or 5 seconds pass before you’ll hear somebody laugh.”
