Seelpa KeshvalaOn Dec. 2, officials with the Lone Star College System announced that Seelpa Keshvala will become the new President of Lone Star College-CyFair. She will be the school’s third president, effective March 1, and will be succeeding former president Audre Levy. Keshvala has served as president of the Warsaw Campus of Ivy Tech Community College in Warsaw, Indiana, since March 2014. Prior to her role as president, she served as vice chancellor and executive dean. Keshvala said she is a deep believer in the community college mission—particularly for financially-challenged students. “In every position I have held and every sector in which I have worked, I have made intentional efforts to create new and/or expand upon existing opportunities for students from under-resourced backgrounds so as to ensure their academic success,” she said. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Keshvala earned a doctorate in urban education, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Keshvala was named president after an intensive search process that involved eight semifinalists. She said her passion for education is driven by the idea that education equals opportunity. “It is through acquired education that I have been fortunate to take advantage of countless opportunities and create the path I desire in life,” Keshvala said. “I feel fortunate to have a career in the same field that has provided so much for me and for being able to help others change and enhance their lives.” Upon her arrival at LSC-CyFair, Keshvala said she looks forward to speaking with students, faculty and external constituents to help move the college forward.
