As temperatures continue to drop, nonprofit organization Society of Samaritans in Magnolia is prepping for the winter season by hosting a clothing and bedding drive for residents in need.
"Depending on how much we receive is how much we will give," said Frieda King, volunteer coordinator for Society of Samaritans. "We certainly want seniors and children to be warm."
The organization is collecting new and lightly-used items for adults and children, including blankets, comforters, mattress pads, sheet sets, pillowcases, socks and slippers.
Residents are able to donate items at two drop-off sites this month—S.O.S Little Twig at 603 Little Twig Lane and West Montgomery County Community Development Center at 31355 Friendship Drive. Donations are accepted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at S.O.S. Little Twig Nov. 8, Nov. 15 and Nov. 22 and at the development center Nov. 12, Nov. 19 and Nov. 26.
The organization will host its donation giveaway event Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at S.O.S Little Twig. Adults and children in need of warm winter clothing and bedding supplies will be issued a voucher and are welcome to select free items from the variety of donated products, King said.
"Probably all of the blankets will be gone [at the giveaway event]," King said. "And if any are not taken, they'll stay at Little Twig, and they'll be free."
