On Monday night the Klein ISD board of trustees voted to approve the District of Innovation plan, which provides more local control, such as greater flexibility in planning and establishing class sizes and attendance policies.

“We are thrilled that Klein ISD is now a District of Innovation,” said Jenny McGown, Klein ISD chief learning officer. “We look forward to leveraging this increased local control to make our shared vision of every student entering with a promise and exiting with a purpose a reality.”

House Bill 1842, which was passed in spring 2015, gave public school districts the opportunity to become DOIs. The designation allows KISD to obtain more local control in various areas to make teaching and learning more effective for every student’s needs. Klein ISD joins more than 60 other Texas school districts that have approved DOI plans.

The district sought public input and also formed an innovation plan team comprising school staff, parents and members of the community.

"We will continue to work in a collaborative manner in order to determine what the specifics will look like in KISD,” McGown said. “We’re very intentionally working around a shared vision for the the benefits of the students.”
