Cy-Fair ISD scored higher than the state average on all 2016 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams at all levels, according to data released Aug. 15.
CFISD earned a district-wide Met Standard rating with all campuses achieving the “met standard” or “met alternative standard” designation.
Students in grades 3-8 took STAAR exams for reading and math. Statewide, sixth grade students scored the lowest in reading with a 71 percent satisfactory rating, and eighth graders scored the highest with an 82 percent rating.
All CFISD students scored above a 78 percent satisfactory rating. Sixth graders scored the lowest at 78 percent and eighth graders scored the highest at 88 percent.
In math, seventh graders statewide performed the worst with a 71 percent satisfactory rating. Fifth graders statewide scored the highest with 79 percent.
In CFISD, fifth graders also scored the highest in math with an 85 percent satisfactory rating. Fourth and eighth graders tied for the lowest with 78 percent.
Only fourth and seventh graders take writing exams. CFISD students bested the statewide average in both grades. Fourth graders beat the state average by 6 percent and seventh graders beat the average by 5 percent.
Science exams are only administered to fifth and eighth graders. CFISD students beat the state average on this exam as well, fifth graders by 12 percent and eighth graders by 8 percent.
Only eighth graders take the statewide social studies exam. CFISD students bested the statewide average by 9 percent.
High school students took end-of-course exams in algebra I, biology, English I, English II and U.S. history.
In each of these areas, CFISD students surpassed the statewide average by several percentage points: in algebra I by 9 percent; in biology by 3 percent; in English I by 12 percent; in English II by 10 percent and in U.S. history by 3 percent.
