Spring ISD board of trustees voted this week to rename the district’s Early College Academy at Southridge. The school will open Aug. 22 as Spring Early College Academy.
The school, previously located on Southridge Road, is moving to its new campus 14450 TC Jester Blvd. this fall, school officials said.
Spring Early College Academy offers college credit courses to high school students through a district partnership with Lone Star College-North Harris. Students can graduate from high school with an associate degree or up to 60 college credits. Classes are offered free of charge to students accepted into the program, according to the Spring ISD website.
The school opened in 2011 and has held commencement for two graduating classes. Enrollment for the 2015-16 year was 389 students.
The district-owned former office building on TC Jester Blvd. underwent a $4.9 renovation this year to accommodate school programs. The two bottom floors of the building will be used for instruction, and the third floor will house exercise equipment, Chief Operations Officer Mark Miranda said earlier this year.
