The 73rd annual Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo will kick off Feb. 17 at the L.D. Robinson Pavilion. The event, organized by KISD and the Katy Livestock Show and Rodeo Association, runs through Feb. 20 “It’s a really great opportunity for students to [show their animals],” Katy Sheffield, Tompkins High School agriculture instructor and FFA chapter adviser said. “A lot of these students don’t have an opportunity to show an animal otherwise.” The event commences with a rodeo involving agriculture and special-needs students. Festivities continue through Feb. 20 with students showing animals, including goats, lambs, hogs and steers. A parade will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 20 with floats from local businesses, horses and various marching bands. The KLSRA supports the district’s FFA programs. In October, the organization donated $65,000 to KISD’s agriculture department, Sheffield said. The proceeds came from the 2015 rodeo. “Everything we do would not be possible without [KLSRA’s] support,” she said. A schedule of events can be viewed online.
