Built in 1954 and opened to the public in 1955, Dean is the second-oldest standing school in the district behind Cy-Fair High School. After the Cypress and Fairbanks schools districts consolidated in 1939, Dean was the first new school to be built in the Fairbanks area. “There is a lot of history to celebrate here,” said Director of Instruction Clint Vick. “We want to celebrate all the hard work that goes on here today as well. We are the largest Title I school in the district. We have the highest percentage of economically disadvantaged students. The school has grown, but the drive to succeed has always been there.” The celebration, which runs from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Dean Middle School football field, will be headlined with a proclamation presented to Principal Chris Hecker from the City of Houston declaring Oct. 17 Dean Middle School Day. The event will also feature food trucks, carnival games, concession stands and will include performances from school clubs and the Jersey Village High School Drill Team.
