Texas Comptroller Susan Combs visited with Cy-Fair ISD leaders Feb. 27 at Holbrook Elementary to commend the district on its financial achievements and five-star Financial Allocation Study for Texas rating.
Cy-Fair ISD is one of 11 districts in Texas to earn the five-star rating all four years since the program began.
"You are a model, and I hope people understand this did not happen by happenstance," Combs said. "You worked at it, your board worked at it, and my hat's off to you."
During her visit, Combs awarded a Texas Honors Circle District Award to Superintendent Mark Henry along with a Texas Honors Circle Campus Award to Yvette Garcia, Holbrook principal.
"In public education, it is not simply enough to be strong academically," Henry said. "Districts must be strong financially as well. We need to be wise with taxpayer dollars to get the most out of everything we spend."
FAST was created by the comptroller's office to study academic, financial and demographic data to determine which districts produce high academic achievement along with cost-effective operations. For more information on the FAST rating system, visit www.fastexas.org.
