With Anthony Middle School set to open in Towne Lake this fall, and in an effort to clean up feeder patterns and reduce elementary enrollment numbers, Cy-Fair ISD administrators have prepared several attendance zone boundary options that will be up for approval at the Feb. 13 board meeting.

"The attendance zone recommendations we are making we see as permanent and long-term," said Teresa Hull, associate superintendent for governmental relations, communications and chief of staff. "We were thoughtful and careful as we developed these options of being cautious of moving kids we might have to move again."

There are two options for rezoning students from Smith Middle School to the new Anthony Middle School, but each one keeps entire neighborhoods together. Under option one, the following neighborhoods would be rezoned to Anthony Middle School: Canyon Lakes West east and west of Fry Road, Lakeview Lofts, Lone Oak, Paddock, Remington Grove, Towne Lake, Villages of Canyon Lakes West, Westgate, Westgate west of the creek, Windhaven Lakes and Yaupon Ranch.

Option two involves rezoning the following neighborhoods from Smith Middle School to Anthony Middle School: Lakeview Lofts, Lone Oak, Paddock, Remington Grove, Towne Lake, Villages of Canyon Lakes West, Westgate, Westgate west of the creek, Windhaven Lakes and Yaupon Ranch.

"With option No. 2, Anthony will open a little smaller than Smith, but grow at a steady pace," said Marty Edwards, general administration director for CFISD. "[With this option], we don't see the need to rezone students out of Anthony in the next decade."

Administrators have also made recommendations to adjust 17 elementary school boundaries. Additionally, several elementary campuses in the district are overcrowded and need relief.

"We're looking to reduce enrollment at several elementaries," Hull said. "If you look at the current enrollment of our elementary schools, it's pretty dense."

The district no longer forms committees to gain insight on proposed school boundaries, but allows the entire community to submit feedback online, Hull said.

All community members can submit feedback online through the first part of February at www.cfisd.net.
