The CHI St. Luke’s Health system is cutting 230 positions across its 17-hospital system in Texas, according to the organization. Of the 230 positions across the system, 104 were vacant positions identified as inessential going forward while 36 employees will be reassigned to comparable roles. Thirty employees were offered other positions and 60 workers will leave the organization. “Only 60 employees will actually leave, so that’s less than 0.5 percent of our workforce,” spokesperson Tymika Morrison said. Morrison said the organization is not providing additional details pertaining to the job cuts by market or types of positions, but said all CHI St. Luke’s Health hospitals—including those in The Vintage, Sugar Land and The Woodlands—would be affected. The cuts come as a result of restructuring the organization to reduce expenses, according to a statement from CHI St. Luke’s Health. “It is important to note that we remain focused on growth,” said CHI St. Luke’s Health CEO Michael H. Covert in the statement. “The restructuring we have recently completed, although difficult, was done in order to ensure the best use of our resources. Covert said the Houston-based system—which has eight hospitals in the city—is actively recruiting for open. Included in the system are also CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial centers in Lufkin, Livingston and San Augustine as well as CHI St. Joseph in the Bryan—College Station area.
