What began as a family hamburger restaurant has turned into a magnet for diners who are hungry for international flavor.

World’s Burgers opened its doors in May 2011 in the historical town of Montgomery with a mission to offer an alternative to the average burger stand.

The restaurant’s menu started small, with its standard classic burger and six other varieties of the American staple. Within a few months of opening, however, owner Eva Alonso decided to add 11 more exotic burgers to the menu. The restaurant now serves 18 burgers with flavors typical of international cuisines that range from Asia to South America to Europe.

“We wanted to live up to our name and appreciate our diverse community,” Alonso said.

She introduced dishes like the Caribbean Burger ($7.75), which is topped with grilled plantains, pineapple and a tropical sauce. Another variety quickly became the restaurant’s most-asked-for item: the Brazilian Burger ($7.75), which has bacon, avocado and a fried egg.

Each hamburger is made with 100 percent fresh Black Angus ground beef. Customers can also order a burger made with fresh ground turkey, grilled chicken or a black bean veggie patty. Toppings, such as fried egg, grilled ham, pineapple or mushrooms, are layered to evoke the savory taste of that international cuisine.

“Everything is fresh, not frozen,” Alonso said. “Even our gourmet bread is made from scratch.”

Customers also have a choice of homemade World’s Burgers buns: the gourmet bun, wheat germ bun or jalapeno pepper bun.

“When people think of burgers, they think of fast food,” Alonso said. “When people see World’s Burgers, I want them to think of a fresh, gourmet burger.”

The smoothie menu even includes unique flavors, like Kale. The summer favorite, the avocado smoothie, is freshly made upon request.

“We also have a secret family ‘Frappuccino’ recipe,” Alonso said.

The restaurant also serves Blue Bell ice cream cones ($1.59-$2.59) and milkshakes ($3.45) in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint chocolate, and cookies and cream.

While diners can catch a soccer match on TVs or munch to the rhythm of pop tunes, they can also eat al fresco at the small patio tables out front.

“Visitors, locals and families come here,” said Gloria Martinez, Alonso’s sister and general manager. “We’re thankful to our surrounding communities for their loyalty and support.”
