Kitten House Rescue Cats and kittens are available for adoption at the Kitten House Rescue on FM 1960, set to expand in August.[/caption] The Kitten House Rescue, a non-profit cat and kitten rescue group, is expanding into an adjacent storefront in August, adding 1,300 square feet to its facility at 5050 FM 1960 W, Ste. 103, Houston. The rescue group has five staff members and seven volunteers and is funded through donations and adoption fees. A $95 adoption fee for each pet includes spaying and neutering, shots, testing for feline leukemia, deworming and flea control. Kitten House Rescue founder Debrah Rogers said 1.5 million kittens are born every year in Houston. “It’s a huge problem,” Rogers said. She began the effort out of her house and moved to the storefront in January. The group pulls cats and kittens from kill shelters up to age two and offers them for adoption. It currently has about 100 cats and kittens up for adoption. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to help the community with a very recognizable problem,” Rogers said. The expansion will allow the group to have a separate quarantine room for new arrivals. It will also provide room for a kitten playroom and area for families to meet and interact with the animals, Rogers said. Retail sales for food, litter, supplies and gifts also will expand in the new area. 832-236-2643. www.kittenhouserescue.org
