Marianna and George Huliaris grew up working for their parents at The Olive Oil restaurant in The Woodlands area, sharing their Greek culture with the community. The siblings are now applying the knowledge and skills they acquired from their parents to their own restaurant, The Omega Grill.
Two doors down from their parents’ eatery, the siblings opened The Omega Grill last September at399 Sawdust Road, Spring. Marianna said the restaurant boasts gourmet, American soul food in a laid-back atmosphere.
“We love fresh ingredients because that comes from our culture,” she said. “Everything in Greece is so fresh and so fulfilling, and you feel great afterwards. So we wanted to do the same thing with American food.”
To achieve this goal, The Omega Grill features Texas-based companies, such as Bravado Spice and44 Farms, which produce all-natural, gluten-free, hormone-free and genetically-modified organism-free products.
In addition, the eatery also carries local beers from 8th Wonder Brewery and Karbach Brewing Co. on draft as well as beers from Saint Arnold Brewing Company by the bottle.
“Not a lot of places feature the Houston beers, so we try to make sure the customers who typically order basic beers try the local beers so they’re not just drinking the same thing all the time,” Marianna said.
The grill also offers a wine selection, which the siblings are in the process of broadening and localizing.
The Omega Grill menu has everything from soups and salads to burgers and hot dogs. Some customer favorites on the menu include chicken-fried pork chops, and shrimp and grits.
“We have ladies who come in four to five times a week, and that’s what’s awesome about our menu—it’s so diverse you can eat something different every day,” Marianna said.
A family-owned and -operated business, there is always an owner in the restaurant, Marianna said.
“Everyone that works here is either family, or like family,” she said. “We’re all very close-knit. We talk a lot and make sure everyone’s on the same page, and we get ideas from our employees and from our customers. It’s just a very tight-knit community.”
George and Marianna said they have no plans of opening another restaurant or expanding their existing one at the moment.
“Right now, we’re focusing on just making sure that everything’s running smoothly because we’re still pretty new, and we’re both fairly young,” Marianna said. “It’s our first business that we’ve opened, so we’re still kind of working on things.”
