With over 98 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat Lizzie Pannill Fletcher is projected to defeat 11-term incumbent Republican John Culberson in Texas' 7th Congressional District.

Fletcher has 52.1 percent of the vote, or 123,596 votes, to Culberson's 47.9 percent, or 113,493 votes.

A total of 237,089 voters cast ballots in the election so far. A total of 255,533 people voted in the District 7 race in the 2016 presidential elections, when Culberson ran against Democrat James Cargas. Voter turnout is close to doubling turnout from the most recent midterm election in 2014, when 143,219 votes were cast in the race for District 7.

All votes are unofficial until canvassed.

With 113 of 152 precincts reporting, Democrat Lizzie Pannill Fletcher is on path to defeat Republican incumbent John Culberson in the race for Congressional District 7 in Texas.

Culberson has narrowed the gap slightly in election day voting, picking up 25,226 votes to Fletcher's 24,832, but Culberson remains behind with 48.1 percent of the total vote. Fletcher leads Culberson by a total of 8,437 votes, with 114,838 to Culberson's 106,401.

With early and absentee voting results in, Democrat Lizzie Pannill Fletcher is leading the race for the 7th Congressional District in Texas with 52.6 percent of the vote, a total of 90,015 votes.

Republican John Culberson is trailing with 47.4 percent of the vote, or 81,175 votes. A total of 171,190 ballots were cast for District 7 in the early voting period.

District 7 represents parts of west and northwest Harris County, including western parts of the city of Houston, Bellaire, the Energy Corridor and the Bear Creek area as well as parts of Copperfield and the city of Jersey Village.

Culberson, the incumbent in the race, has represented District 7 since being elected in 2001. He said his top priorities if elected involve improving the flood control network and growing the economy. He pointed to the role he played as a congressman in helping secure flood control funding for Harris County as a part of a $141 billion disaster relief package passed earlier this year.

Fletcher, a first-time candidate, won her March primary against opponent Laura Moser with 67.1 percent of the vote. She said her top priorities if elected would include ensuring federal flood projects are completed on time and on budget, strengthening and improving the Affordable Care Act and improving transportation in the Houston area.

Culberson won his bid for District 7 in 2016, defeating Democratic opponent James Cargas with 56.2 percent of the vote, about 143,000 of the 255,533 votes cast. The 2016 race was Culberson's narrowest margin of victory since he defeated Democrat Michael Skelly in 2008 with 55.9 percent of the vote.
