The Elrod family's episode aired Jan. 30, and can be streamed on Hulu or at www.abc.com.
The backstory
Former Katy-area residents Regina and Maurice Elrod said they lost their home to a fire in August 2023 along with their pet cat and Maurice Elrod’s mother. After the disaster, the couple heard about the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” reboot and applied in hopes of rebuilding their lives.
“The show being rebooted was ironic because we as a family were fans of the show back in the day,” Maurice Elrod said. “We saw so many great stories, and sometimes you don't even recognize or realize that could be you, right? That could be any one of us.”
After being chosen from hundreds of applicants, the Elrods, their three children and niece moved into the home Aug. 26.
As previously reported by Community Impact, developer Taylor Morrison is the exclusive homebuilder for ABC's “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.'' The project took place during a 24/7 effort with volunteers from Aug. 17-23.

The two-story, 2,600-square-foot home was designed for the Elrod family’s specific needs with minimal involvement from the family to preserve the element of surprise, Taylor Morrison Houston Division President Todd Rasmussen said.
