1. The State Fair kicked off in Dallas

2. National Night Out unites community, law enforcement

For 33 years, National Night Out has promoted police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Harris County Sherriff’s Office will host events Tuesday night across Cypress. Check with your local HOA to learn if your neighborhood is hosting activities.

3. Reach Unlimited’s Reach for the Stars Fundraising Luncheon

4. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness month

Several local events will take place throughout the month to raise money and awareness. North Cypress Medical Center will host the 10th annual Project Pink event, which will benefit the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure later this month on Oct. 22 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The event features a fashion show, silent auction and lunch while physicians and survivors speak on breast cancer research and prevention. 5. The voter registration deadline is approaching
