Barbe worked with the hospital system for nearly two decades, most recently leading the effort to open the new Cypress hospital and convenient care center off Hwy. 290 near Mueschke Road. The convenient care center opened in early 2016, and the 80-bed hospital is on target to open March 31. “Scott has been an invaluable member of the Memorial Hermann Health System team," said Craig Cordola, senior vice president and regional president of West Memorial Hermann Health System. "We can’t thank him enough for his years of strong leadership.” Barbe previously served as CEO of the Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, where he was instrumental in the hospital's relocation from Pin Oak Road to the Katy Freeway. He has also served as a leader and board member for community organizations such as the Greater Houston Hospital Council and the Texas Hospital Association. Barbe will be replaced by Heath Rushing, former senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital. Rushing, who officially began his new role today, will work with Barbe through the opening of the Cypress hospital as he fully transitions to CEO. He will serve as CEO of both the Cypress and Katy hospitals, officials said. Barbe said he is confident the Cypress hospital is being left in good hands under Rushing. “Heath is dedicated to providing exceptional care and service to our patients and is passionate about getting to know the community he proudly serves," Barbe said in a statement. "Between his leadership experience at Memorial Hermann Northeast, as well as his overall 15 years of service to the system, I know he will help lead Memorial Hermann Cypress to become the go-to choice for healthcare in this area." Rushing, who joined Memorial Hermann in 2002, said he is excited about the opportunity to lead both hospitals. "I am confident that together we will be able to build on the strong foundation that is already in place to navigate this ever-changing industry,” he said. “I hope my tenure as CEO will not only facilitate a better experience for our patients, but also for our employees and affiliated physicians.” Other features of the new Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital include a 16-bed intensive care unit, labor and delivery unit, neonatal intensive care unit, cardiac catheterization lab and Life Flight helipad. This hospital and convenient care center are set on a 32-acre campus with room to grow, including space  for potential patient towers and medical office buildings in the future.
