With demand for nurses on the rise across the region, officials announced in an Oct. 25 news release a new campus of Galen College of Nursing would open in Houston next year.

Galen College of Nursing is an affiliate of HCA Houston Healthcare with a mission to make quality nursing education more accessible and help address the region’s nursing needs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, experts estimate significant employment growth for registered nurses over the next decade.

“We are honored to bring our 30 years of experience exclusively educating nurses to our fourth location in Texas. Galen is uniquely positioned to help expand the pipeline of well-prepared nurses in the Houston area,” CEO Mark Vogt said in a statement.

Officials said the campus will feature advanced patient simulation labs and classroom environments at 11210 Equity Drive, Houston.

The campus is enrolling students for upcoming classes. A three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will kick off Jan. 9. Later in the year, the college will also offer a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse to Associate Degree in Nursing Bridge program as well as a Vocational Nursing program. Galen College of Nursing also offers online programs for nurses looking to further their education and advance their careers.

Kelli Nations, division chief nurse executive at HCA Houston Healthcare, said a new location of HCA Healthcare Center for Clinical Advancement will also be located at this site.

“We look forward to working with Galen to bridge nursing education and practice, not only to expand our workforce, but also to enhance new graduate preparedness. ... With the new center, Galen students and HCA Houston Healthcare nurses alike will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in a leading-edge learning environment with the aid of advanced simulation technology and evidence-based education strategies that replicate real clinical situations,” she said in the release.
