Updated July 28, 9:00 a.m.

The Northern Harris County Regional Water Authority announced July 27 that the 48-inch water line under investigation as of July 22 has been returned to service with pressure at "normal" levels for "high demand conditions."

NHCRWA project manager Carlton McDevitt said in the release that controls at water plants that were changed to increase groundwater use should be returned to the primary supply of surface water.

In a July 25 update to the authority's initial announcement, the 48-inch line under T.C. Jester Boulevard was not indicated to be the source of the leak, and that the NHCRWA was cooperating with local municipal utility districts to locate the leak source. The NHCRWA did not indicate in their July 27 update whether the leak had been identified.

Original story, July 22

The Northern Harris County Regional Water Authority announced July 22 that one of its contractors was investigating a potential leak in one of its transmission lines.

According to the announcement, the 48-inch water line that is under investigation must be isolated and drained to allow inspectors to access the site. The NHCRWA said this may cause customers of certain municipal utility districts, or MUDs, to experience low water pressure.

In a July 21 email attached to the announcement, an NHCRWA project manager said a repair plan and schedule was not available, although inspectors may access the pipe July 22. The email also identified the source of the potential leak as a steel pipe running under T.C. Jester Boulevard.
