Two of three Jersey Village City Council seats will be contested in the upcoming May 3 election, according to a Feb. 18 email from Jersey Village city officials.

On the ballot

James Singleton is running unopposed to replace Bobby Warren as mayor of Jersey Village. Warren has served as mayor for the last four years after serving two terms as a council member.

The candidates running to serve in council member places 2 and 3, currently held by Sheri Sheppard and Michelle Mitcham, respectively, will see competition as four people filed for the two open seats.

Sheppard will not run for re-election, opening the door for Simon Hughes and Eric Henao to go head-to-head for council member Place 2. Mitcham, the incumbent for Place 3, will face Rachel Beazley on the ballot.

Council member terms last two years, according to Jersey Village’s city website. Per the city charter, mayors are limited to three consecutive terms; council members are limited to four consecutive terms.
