Early voting results from the Harris County Clerk’s Office show Jaime H. Martinez and Bevin O'Connor Gordon have taken an early lead in the race for Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9, the taxing entity that supports fire suppression and emergency medical services from the Cy-Fair Fire Department.
The breakdown
Four people ran for two of the five commissioner seats in the Nov. 5 election. The two candidates who earn the most votes will win the two seats up for election and serve for the next four years.
With early voting results counted:
- Jaime H. Martinez has earned 45,569 votes. He has experience as an accountant and business owner, and has worked in the finance and government sectors.
- Bevin O’Connor Gordon has earned 35,140 votes. Her experience entails working as a communications director and registered nurse; serving in the U.S. Navy; and serving on the board of the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation and HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood/North Cypress.
- David Langenberg has earned 30,182 votes. He has many years of experience in the fire service industry and currently serves as the city of Humble's fire chief.
- David Farrington has earned 24,345 votes. He has 21 years of experience as an IT system engineer and 22 years as a certified master auto technicianThe labor union representing the Cy-Fair Fire Department, Cy-Fair Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 5248, endorsed both incumbents. Langenberg and Gordon have served on the board since 2016 and 2020, respectively.
Community Impact previously reported the department is adding eight new fire stations and more staff over the next several years. Commissioners said their financial reserves will help fund the new stations, which could cost about $118 million.
The Cy-Fair Fire Department:
- Has 13 fire stations throughout the district
- Covers 164 square miles
- Serves a community that has about 640,000 residents
