Former Jersey Village Mayor Justin Ray announced May 24 plans to relaunch his campaign for the Texas House of Representatives after losing the November 2020 election by 300 votes to state Rep. Jon Rosenthal, D-Houston, according to a press release.

“I am proud of the race we ran, the effort our team put in, and humbled by the support that we received,” Ray said in the release. “Coming within 300 votes of winning is an encouraging sign that shows that our district is ready for a change in leadership.”

Rosenthal is currently serving his second two-year term as the representative for District 135, which covers Jersey Village and portions of Cy-Fair.

“We ran an issue-based campaign, focused on education, public safety and the economic future of Texas,” Ray said.

In his previous election, Ray said he is running to address issues including lowering taxes and supporting school funding and teacher salaries.

“I am running to represent our district because I uniquely understand the community’s many opportunities and challenges,” he told Community Impact Newspaper in 2020.

The primary election is scheduled for March 1, 2022, with Election Day following that November. For more information, visit www.justinrayfortexas.com/about-justin.
