Holmsley, Lieder and Tipps elementary schools were awarded the playground improvements. SPARK School Park Executive Director Kathleen Ownby said the parks were funded using "park desert" funds raised by the program.
"SPARK parks benefit the school during the day and the community after school, on weekends and holidays," Ownby said in the release.
About the program
The SPARK School Park Program helps develop neighborhood parks on public school grounds throughout Houston and Harris County. The parks are designed based on each school's and surrounding neighborhoods' ideas and needs.
According to the news release, the SPARK School Park Program aims to build playgrounds so that communities have a city, county, or SPARK park within a 10-minute walk from their homes.
"Lieder Elementary has always been the heart of the community and the families we serve," Lieder Elementary Principal Dinah McMichael said in the release. "Our students are in awe of our new track and playground equipment, and we are thankful to lock arms with their incredible families as we create incredible spaces for all those around us to connect and learn."
