Ashley Clayburn, assistant superintendent of district improvement and accountability, said this committee is tasked with creating a calendar that is instructionally best for students and follows state law while considering the state testing calendar, student attendance trends, holidays and surrounding district calendars.
Per the Texas Education Code, school calendars must include a minimum of 75,600 minutes for students, 187-day contracts for teachers and inclement weather days built in. School cannot start before the fourth Monday in August, and May 15 is the earliest the school year can end, according to Clayburn.
