Cy-Fair ISD officials accepted an incentive check for more than $156,000 during the Nov. 13 board meeting from the CenterPoint Energy SCORE program—Schools Conserving of Resources Energy.
The program rewards school districts for being energy efficient, and this check was based on projects completed in the 2016-17 academic year. The district has now been participating in the SCORE program for 11 years, which has collectively resulted in $1.4 million in incentives from CenterPoint.
CFISD Chief Operations Officer Roy Sprague said the funds the district receives from this program each year are invested in additional energy conservation initiatives. These projects have included installing LED lighting, high efficiency chillers and web-based thermostats in portable buildings, among others.
“This enables the district to utilize the electricity dollars that are not spent because of increased energy efficiencies and put those funds back into the classroom to support our students and teachers,” Sprague said.
