Hurricane Harvey brought heavy rains, tornadoes and widespread flooding to the Cy-Fair area in late August, halting the school year and damaging property.

The first day of school was delayed for CFISD students by two weeks, with classes officially beginning  Sept. 11.

The Texas Education Code requires districts to provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction in order to receive the full amount of state funding. However, because CFISD typically has more instructional minutes than is required by the state, the district will still exceed required instructional time by the end of the academic year even after missing nine school days, officials said.
