Two former Cy-Fair ISD athletes will represent the United States in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Cammile Adams, a Cypress Woods High School and Texas A&M alumna, will return to the Olympics as part of the U.S. Olympic swim team for the second time. Chris Brooks, a Cypress Creek High School and University of Oklahoma alumnus, will make his Olympic debut as part of the five-man men's gymnastics team.
Adams first competed in the Olympics in 2012 when she placed fifth in the 200-meter butterfly event. She also competed in the 2008 Olympic trials, but did not advance to the Olympics that year.
In 2012, Adams joined fellow Texas A&M swimmer, Breeja Larson, as the first A&M athletes to qualify for an individual Olympic event.
Brooks earned the second-best all around score in the 2016 Olympic trials in St. Louis. In 2012, he served as a replacement athlete on the 2012 Olympic team alongside Cy-Fair High School alumnus Jonathan Horton.
Brooks trained at the Cypress Academy of Gymnastics throughout high school.
"Chris was a very polite, respectful young man and all-around good student, especially considering the amount of time that it took to train and compete in his sport outside of school," former Cy Creek Principal Jim Wells said.
Cypress Springs High School alumna Samiyah Samuels also competed in the Olympic team trials for track and field on July 1, but did not advance to the Olympics. She placed 17th in the long jump competition.
The 2016 Summer Olympics take place Aug. 5-21.
