Cy-Fair ISD began offering free breakfast and lunch to children under the age of 18 on June 13 at various district campuses. This program, a part of the Seamless Summer Option Program, will run until July 28 at Arnold Middle School, Cypress Springs High School and Cypress Ridge High School and at other campuses for select periods of time.

No proof of age or income is required to receive a meal. Meal sites are open from Mondays to Thursdays only.

The State of Texas requires any school district with over half of the student body qualifying for free or reduced-price meals to offer the summer meal program for at least 30 days.

According to a study from Baylor University released in June, Texas outranks fellow states as having more households that qualify as “food insecure.” This tends to take a toll during the summertime where lack of transportation is a hurdle for families who could benefit from free meals, researchers said.
