This July, Martin Garcia celebrated the first anniversary of opening Salt & Sugar Gastro Bar, an upscale European restaurant and entertainment venue he said is ideal for celebrations and dates.

Staying local

At Salt & Sugar, customers can expect a comfortable atmosphere where they can relax, hang out and feel at home, Garcia said. The restaurant offers dining services, a kids corner with games, and a bar.

With 15 years of experience in the restaurant and entertainment industries, Cy-Fair resident Garcia said he chose the location due to his appreciation for having entertainment options close to home.

On the menu

Salt & Sugar offers European cuisine focusing on Italian food made with fresh ingredients.

Aside from a dining menu consisting of pastas, risotto and steak, it offers a kids menu and dessert.

With dishes made from scratch, Garcia said some favorites from the menu include:
  • Formaggio e vino rosso: A slice of tenderloin with a red wine sauce on top of risotto mixed with melted blue cheese
  • Lomo marañon: Angus beef loin covered in Marañon and topped with blue cheese cream and sweet red wine
  • Al parmiggiano: A tableside service where pasta is cooked inside a wheel of parmesan cheese
Dessert options include tiramisu, red velvet cake and millefoglie alle fragolle—an Italian dessert with crispy puff pastry layers and strawberry filling made from creme patissiere and fresh strawberries.

Along with fine dining, Salt & Sugar specializes in its nonalcoholic Italian sodas and cocktails.

Nonalcoholic Italian sodas include the Italian lychee strawberry made with strawberry syrup, soda water, lychee and lemon; and the Italian pineapple basil made with pineapple syrup, soda water, basil and fresh lemon juice.

With happy hour held Mon.-Fri. from 3-6 p.m., Salt & Sugar offers 50% off all drinks and appetizers. Cocktail favorites include the black margarita infused with charcoal; coffee martini; old fashioned; and Salt & Sugar spritz, the restaurant's signature drink.

Salt & Sugar also offers brunch on Sundays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., ladies night the last Thursday of the month with $6 glasses of wine, and live music on Fridays with a variety of local artist performances.
