Juan Carlos Jimenez established Tequilas Mexican Bar & Grill, a Mexican restaurant specializing in Tex-Mex fajitas in the Cy-Fair area on Feb. 21, 2018.

Jimenez said Tequilas Mexican Bar & Grill provides quality, consistent and authentic Mexican food and Tex-Mex made from scratch.

The backstory

Jimenez began his career in 1993 working for restaurants in Seattle. He opened his first restaurant in Colorado and has also owned restaurants in Boston.

With 30 years of experience as well as family support, Tequilas Mexican Bar & Grill was established in Cy-Fair in 2018, and a second location opened in Katy in 2019. The restaurant's second location is run byJimenez’s brothers.

Jimenez said although the location of the Cy-Fair restaurant has competition with its surrounding restaurants, he chose the location due to the sense of community it provides with its surrounding businesses and schools. The restaurant provides food for events hosted by local schools.

“We try to help and support the community when we can,” Jimenez said. “Even if it's just something simple like chips and salsa or beans and rice, we help where we can.”

The details

Tequilas Mexican Bar & Grill specializes in its Tex-Mex dishes and fajitas. Some restaurant favorites include its steak options and arroz con pollo, which includes diced chicken breast sauteed in special sauce with mushrooms, onions and bell peppers, and served over a bed of rice, lettuce, tomato and avocado slices. The dish’s protein can be substituted for shrimp.

Another customer favorite is the mojarra frita, a whole fried tilapia with garlic spices served with salad. Jimenez said another restaurant speciality is its white queso con chile. The restaurant offers white and yellow queso options. Dessert options include churros, flan and tres leches cake.

Although Tequilas Mexican Bar & Grill specializes in its margaritas with over 20 flavors as well as its signature drink, pina colada, the restaurant offers a full bar.

Jimenez said restaurant guests can also enjoy karaoke nights on the weekends. Although the restaurant kitchen closes at 10 p.m., Jimenez said he has stayed at the restaurant past midnight to allow guests to enjoy more time doing karaoke.
