Officials with Harris County and the city of Houston confirmed 504 new cases of COVID-19 June 15 along with nine deaths. Monday's update includes data from the city of Houston that was built up over two days, as the health department does not report new cases on Sundays. Seven of the deaths and 376 of the cases June 15 came from the city of Houston, while the remaining 128 cases came from Harris County outside of the city. Unlike the city of Houston, the Harris County portion of the data was for Monday only, and another 210 cases were reported by the county on Sunday.

Total cases in the county now stand at 17,282, and active cases have surpassed 10,000. A total of 6,969 cases are confirmed to have recovered, and a total of 284 deaths have now been confirmed.

An average of 337.71 new cases were confirmed each day over the past seven days in Harris County, up slightly from the 322 per-day average over the previous week, June 2-8.

A total of 894 suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients were in Harris County hospitals as of June 14, according to the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council, down slightly from the 896 on June 13 but up from the 712 patients in area hospitals on June 7.


Occupancy rates in the county's intensive care unit beds have trended upward over the past two weeks and have recently been hovering in the low 90% range, according to SETRAC. Of the county's 1,628 operational ICU beds, 1,488 were occupied as of June 14. However, another roughly 300 beds exist in surge capacity.
