Total cases of COVID-19 in the nine-county Greater Houston area increased by 295 May 12 as 93 recoveries and six deaths were reported.
The bulk of new cases were confirmed in the city of Houston, which added 153 new cases. These new cases came one day after the city confirmed 229 cases on May 11.
Galveston County has now reported four or fewer new cases in six straight days. Since May 6, Galveston County has added 19 new cases. As more patients recover, active cases have fallen to 243 in the county, down from 266 active cases on May 4.
Total active cases across the Houston area continue to increase with roughly 87 added May 12, bringing the total to 7,183 active cases. An estimated 703 COVID-19 patients are in Houston-area hospitals, according to the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council.
