A global solar company has moved its headquarters to Houston, which is known as the “Energy Capital of the World.”

SEG Solar produces solar panels for utility, commercial and residential clients, and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new headquarters space Aug. 8 in Cy-Fair.

The company was founded in California in 2016 and now has manufacturing bases in the U.S., Indonesia and Thailand.

The details

Officials with SEG Solar said they purchased about 165,000 square feet of space at the Telge Road facility in 2023 and have since expanded it to a total of 250,000 square feet.

The first phase of the project is already built out, and the manufacturing space will double in the coming months for an annual capacity of 2 gigawatts.

What else?

According to a news release, the move to Houston was a $60 million investment.

SEG Solar is also bringing hundreds of jobs to the region. Officials said the manufacturing process is highly automated, and it only requires about 20 workers each shift. Once the facility is operating at 100% capacity, there will be three shifts to keep the process active 24/7.

Quote of note

“As a leading U.S. solar company, SEG is proud to be among the first to respond to the call for domestic manufacturing by constructing a solar module factory in the U.S. The completion of the Houston plant marks a significant milestone for SEG and a major advancement in U.S. module manufacturing technology,” CEO Jim Wood said.
