Hach Ki Cafe, a pastry and coffee shop, celebrated its first year serving the Cy-Fair area on March 1. Cafe co-owner Martha Palacios said she and her husband opened the business to share their Latin flavors.

Focused on providing a Latin fusion of pastries and coffee sourced from local distributors, Hach Ki Cafe offers pastries made fresh in house each morning.

“Thankfully, we have a lot of regulars that come in who appreciate our Latin flavors, such as cafe de olla,” Martha Palacios said.

On the menu

Hach Ki Cafe offers specialty coffees, frappes, smoothies, and iced coffee and tea. Speciality menu items include cafe de olla; tres deseos made with caramel butter pecan and hazelnut; and hermoso carino made with brown sugar, cinnamon and honey.

The cafe also offers Mexican and Argentinian pastries, including conchas, cuernitos, guayaba bread, tres leches cake and empanadas.

What's in a name

Martha Palacios said the name of the coffee shop, Hach Ki Cafe, comes from her Mayan roots in Yucatan Mexico. The term "hach ki" means "delicious" in her Mayan dialect, she said.

“It's a term my grandmother always used growing up, and the cafe brings back memories of her when i'm cooking,” Martha Palacios said.
