At family-owned and -operated Restore Your Door, owner Marvin Macotto’s dedication to family and quality means he treats customers with special care, he said.

Marvin moved to the U.S. from Honduras at age 18 and immediately went to work to provide for his family. After working at different places and rising through the ranks, Marvin was employed by the original owners of Restore Your Door, the Weaver family, as a driver.

When his wife Anna faced medical issues, the Weaver family sold the business to Marvin to help him provide and care for his wife.

Forty years after this change in ownership, Marvin now works with his son Anthony Macotto to operate the business. Anthony said the COVID-19 pandemic was a challenge for the business.

“A lot of people, they didn’t want people coming into their homes,” Anthony said. “So COVID slowed us down a lot.”

In addition to door cleaning and restoration, Restore Your Door also does other restoration and home improvement work, such as kitchen cabinets, roof cleaning and iron fence restoration. By offering all these services, Anthony said the small business was able to carry on when others could not.

“We just found a way to stay afloat, and now we’re doing pretty good,” Anthony said.

As Anthony prepares to take over the business when his father retires, he looks to Marvin’s track record of overcoming adversity for inspiration.

“Through his hard work and determination, he was able to work his way up in every business that he worked for,” Anthony said. “He’s very work-oriented, so he was able to overcome the adversity and make a name for himself, and a lot of people saw that.”

While performing their services, the staff at Restore Your Door strives to uphold the Macottos’ quality and service standards. Since the business is relatively small and depends on a staff of family members, caring for customers is second nature.

“We try to be there for our customers,” Anthony said. “It’s a small business, and I think it being a small business, we’re able to take care of our customers a little better, be more attentive and just provide the best quality work we can. I’m really big on that, and I know [Marvin] is really big on that.”
