After eyeing the secluded location off Cypress Rosehill Road for several years, Dale and Susan McMullen decided to take the chance and open a new wedding and events venue to give Cypress residents an option closer to home.

Bridal Oaks Weddings and Events, which opened in December, offers a quiet space and options for customization meant to allow each event to reflect the family that organized it, Susan McMullen said.

“We’ve been looking at this for 10 years, maybe a little bit longer,” she said. “We went around visiting all different places and checked them out to see what we wanted to do, and it seemed like everyone was booked all of the time. This is something we thought we would want to be in.”

The McMullens run the venue along with their children, Nick, Shannon Doyle and Chelsea Christianson.

Bridal Oaks hosted its first wedding Dec. 30. The building is located on 12 acres of land that features a gazebo for outdoor weddings and a lake.

Amenities include a dining room with seating for up to 350 guests as well as a bar, kitchen and food service area. Furniture is available upon request, and rooms for the bride and groom include spaces for clothing and entertainment.

The family handles all aspects of running the location, including booking, billing and organization. Christianson said they are already booked almost every weekend from July to December and also have a booking in 2020.

Having previously worked as a caterer for a golf club in Phoenix, Christianson said booking and scheduling events comes naturally to her. She said she decided to move back to Cy-Fair after having children, and the events business was something she knew she wanted to get back into.

“I loved my job,” she said, referring to her work in Phoenix. “We always enjoyed being around people and making people’s events great.”

Although Bridal Oaks has a variety of catering and decorating vendors clients can choose from, the venue allows clients to use their own vendors as well. Customers also have the option of using the venue for the entire day without having to worry about time restrictions, Christianson said.

“A lot of places may have you use a certain caterer, so you’re picking a certain food that you may not love,” she said. “We are not an all-inclusive venue. If I want to have Mexican food from Gringo’s at my wedding, that’s what I’m going to have.”

McMullen said the venue is looking for different groups to book events during the week, such as chambers of commerce and church groups.

“During the weekdays, we don’t do much here,” he said. “We want to be able to work with people like that just to get it out there and help the community as much as we can.”

Christianson said her family is ready to welcome the community to the venue.

“There [are] plenty of brides in Cy-Fair, and we have the perfect piece of land right here,” she said.
