Connie’s Frozen Custard[/caption]

Fresh vanilla custard is topped with hot fudge, caramel sauce, roasted pecans and cherries to make the J.B.’s Texas Turtle sundae at Connie’s Frozen Custard, sold for $5.58.

Owner Melissa Ashby, a Missouri native, said she opened the shop in April 2000 after discovering frozen custard in her home state.

“When I moved here, I would go back home and there were a few frozen custard places, but there was nothing [in Cy-Fair],” she said. “I enjoyed the product, so I approached people about opening our own shop.”

Made with processed egg yolk, frozen custard has less air than regular ice cream, giving it a denser, creamier and richer consistency, Ashby said.

Other sundae varieties include brownie, apple pie and strawberry-banana. Floats, freezes, milkshakes and concretes—frozen custard with toppings blended in—are also popular, and Connie’s offers more than 30 toppings.
